To All V.Ships Seafarers and their Families - 17-Mar-2020

As you are all aware, the World Health Organization (WHO) recently declared the rapidly spreading Coronavirus outbreak a pandemic. In order to slow the transmission of the virus, many countries and regions have imposed strict quarantines and/or entry bans for travellers, with many more governments expected to follow soon.

During this period our highest priority is your safety and wellbeing.

Onboard our managed vessels we have implemented strict measures to control the health of all crew. For all your families and for those of you who are on leave, you will be able to protect yourself by following WHO guidelines and the advice of your national and local authorities.

We all hope that you all stay safe!

Travel exposes a person to higher risk due to increased interaction with other individuals. As recommended by health authorities, V.Group has restricted all travel to minimise the risk of infection of our colleagues and their families.
We considered the following when making the decision to postpone crew changes for four weeks:

  1. Your increased transmission when travelling to and from the vessel. This may further spread to his/her community after signing off and to the vessel crew after signing on.
  2. Given the ever-increasing travel bans, numerous travellers are stranded or quarantined at airports across the world.
  3. In the current circumstances, the vessel is considered a controlled environment following local and V.Ships guidelines.

We will consider crew changes in exceptional circumstances and will evaluate all the risks to you, your family and your colleagues before making any decisions.

Some of you will want to return to your families promptly at the end of your contract and some of you may wish to join a vessel in the near future. Your crewing teams in the V.Ships offices will stay in touch with all vessels and those of you on leave. Our aim is not to extend your contracts excessively as we are aware that your wellbeing could be affected.

We realise this is a difficult and worrying situation for you and your families. If you or your families have any questions or concerns, please contact your V.Ships crewing teams or the V.Ships Crew Support Centre.

For those crew and family members onshore, we are restricting access to our offices and training centres. Until further notice, all visits will be by appointment only.

We seek your cooperation and patience in adhering with these measures which are intended to keep you and your family members safe, while we all look forward to a solution to this pandemic.

Many thanks to all of you and stay safe!

Kind regards,

Allan Falkenberg
