How do I make a Transfer using Western Union?

ShipMoney is pleased to offer Western Union services, allowing Seafarer to send money to your family for cash pick-up or directly to a bank account without leaving the ship.

Before Seafarer Start

  • Who Can Use It: Only ShipMoney USD and EUR Main Cardholders (crew members) can use this service. Companion cardholders are not eligible.
  • What Seafarer Need: An internet connection, your ShipMoney main card, and the receiver's full legal details.

Step 1: Access Western Union

  1. Log In: Open the ShipMoney App or go to ShipMoney.com.
  2. Select Service: Tap Send Money, then tap Cash Pick-up next to the Western Union logo.
  3. Verify: Tap Next to receive a 6-digit security code via email or SMS. Enter the code and tap Confirm.

Step 2: Sign In or Register

  1. New Users: If it is your first time, tap Register and fill in your personal details. Seafarer must register through this link even if Seafarer have an existing Western Union account to receive special ShipMoney rates.
  2. Existing Users: If already registered via ShipMoney, enter your Western Union password and tap Continue.

Step 3: Set Up the Transfer

  1. Amount & Country: Select the receiver’s country and enter the amount Seafarer wish to send.
  2. Delivery Method: Choose Cash Pick-Up or Bank Account.
  3. Payment Method: Select Payroll Card (your ShipMoney card).
  4. Security: Read the Fraud Warning and tap Accept.

Step 4: Enter Receiver Details

  1. Receiver Info: Enter the recipient's full name exactly as it appears on their government-issued ID.
  2. Transaction Details: Select the purpose of the transaction (e.g., Family Support) and the source of funds (e.g., Salary).
  3. Review: Tap Continue to see the final summary of fees and exchange rates.

Step 5: Complete and Share

  1. Finalize: Review all details and tap Continue to send the money.
  2. Track Transfer: Copy the MTCN (Tracking Number) from your receipt.
  3. Pickup: Share the MTCN with your receiver. They will need it, along with a government-issued ID, to collect the funds.
