How do I make a Transfer using MoneyGram?

The ShipMoney MoneyGram service allows Seafarer to send funds for cash pick-up at any MoneyGram location worldwide.

Before Seafarer Start

  • Eligibility: Only ShipMoney USD Main Cardholders (crew members) can use this service.
  • Exclusions: Companion cardholders are not permitted to send MoneyGram transfers.
  • Requirements: Seafarer must have a USD main card, internet access, and the recipient's full legal name, phone number, and location.

Step 1: Access MoneyGram

  1. Log In: Sign in to your ShipMoney account via the app or website.
  2. Select Service: Click the Send Money tab, then select Cash Pick Up next to the MoneyGram logo.
  3. Security Review: Read the fraud warning and click Accept twice to proceed.

Step 2: Enter Send Information

  1. Recipient Country: Select the recipient’s country from the dropdown list.
  2. Amount: Enter the total amount Seafarer wish to send in USD.
  3. Delivery Mode: Select the delivery mode and click Next.

Step 3: Add or Select a Recipient

  1. Existing Recipient: If the recipient is already saved, simply tap their Name to continue.
  2. New Recipient: Tap + Add Recipient at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Enter Details: Provide the recipient's personal information:
    • First & Last Name: Must exactly match their government-issued ID or passport.
    • Phone Number: Required for transaction notifications.
    • Email: Include a valid email to receive the transaction reference number.
    • Purpose: Select the reason for the transaction from the dropdown menu.
    • Verification: Enter your 4-digit birth year for security verification and click Next.
  4. Save Profile: Enter a name to save the recipient's profile and click Save.

Step 4: Finalize the Transaction

  1. Review Quote: Review the transaction details on the Money Transfer Quote screen and click Accept.
  2. Authentication: Enter the one-time 6-digit Security Code sent to your email and phone.
  3. Confirm: Click Next to finalize the transfer.

Step 5: Reference Number & Pick-up

  1. Success Screen: Verify the transaction details on the final confirmation screen.
  2. Share MTCN: Provide the 8-digit Reference Number to your recipient. They will need this number and a valid ID to collect the money.
  3. Exit: Click Done to finish or Schedule to set up a future transfer.

 

Important Information

  • Fees: Recipients may receive slightly less than the sent amount due to local pick-up location fees.
  • Cancellations: Seafarers have 30 minutes to cancel a transfer if there is an error, provided the funds have not been picked up.
  • Refunds: Canceled transactions are refunded instantly to your ShipMoney card
